Pantone Colours of 2016
“Colours this season transport us to a happier, sunnier place where we feel free to express a wittier version of our real selves.” says, Leatrice Eiseman, Executive Director of Pantone Color Institute™. Read below for tips on how to pull off Pantone Colours of the Year, Serenity and Rose Quartz!
Serenity & Rose Quartz Inspired Hair
For those feeling adventurous and courageous this year, why not incorporate the official colours of the year into your hairstyle? This year’s colours and last year’s colour are like night and day! Last year’s Pantone Colour of the Year “Marsala” really made a splash in hair colour in 2015. Serenity and Rose Quartz are the perfect pastel, relaxing colours for spring. This year’s palette is very gender neutral and can be sported by all genders in many different ways! Here’s a sneak peak at the colours on trend this year: Top 10 Colours: Spring 2016
. We’re only a month into the new year and we’ve already seen many new looks including Serenity and Rose Quartz. Serenity is an eye-catching shade of pale blue and Rose Quartz is a pale pink with a cool undertone, making these both very complimentary to one another. To achieve these cool tones in your hair you’ll need to start with a complete blank canvas, meaning you’ll need to be the whitest platinum blonde with absolutely NO yellow undertones. So, to say the least, if you aren’t blonde already you’ll be looking at a very steep salon bill! There are many different ways to add these tones in your hair without the commitment of being a solid colour. You could always opt for Serenity and Rose Quartz highlight, a rooty balayage or ombre! Lately I’ve been a huge fan of a darker and smokier root, which would look gorgeous with Serenity or Rose Quartz blended out through the mid-lengths and ends!
Pantone Inspired Make Up
2016 is going to be the year of bright colours and less rules! Ditch the classic smokey eye and get a little more creative! Each year Sephora collaborates with Pantone Universe to create a collection of make up including all of the on-trend colours of the year. The collection normally includes an eyeshadow pallette, lip glosses and lipsticks. All of these products are highly pigmented so they’ll last quite a while. My favourite Sephora+Pantone Universe products are the Rose Quartz and Serenity Lipsticks. The Rose Quartz lipstick is a pretty pastel shade and can be paired with something dramatic, like a black smokey eye, or a sultry cut crease. I’m also swooned by Serenity lipstick paired with a simple cat eye, or minimal eyeshadow. Although Serenity is calming, the blue tone is still bold so it’s important to let it steal the show. If you’d like to experiment with these different tones but don’t want to burn a hole in your pocket, luckily there are quite a few drugstore brands that carry similar products in these shades! For example, Essence- All About Candies Eye Palette or L’Oreal Infallible Eyeshadows. You can find anything in a good drugstore hunt ;).
Serenity & Rose Quartz Inspired Fashion
For me (at first), imagining wearing a colour that isn’t black is a little terrifying in all honesty. I always thought that you needed a very specific skin tone and hair colour to pull off dressing in bright colours. HOWEVER, after seeing Chanel’s Spring/ Summer collection for 2016 I am in awe. I am in love with how relaxed both the Rose Quartz and Serenity shades are and surprisingly, they look amazing paired together! Personally, I’d never dream of wearing a baby pink shirt with baby blue pants but I’m definitely considering it now. Pantone has totally changed the game this year. These colours paired with chunky white or delicate gold accessories is always a fashion win! Check out some Pantone inpsired outfit pairings on Pinterest and you’ll find plenty of inspiration to be colourful.
I hope you have tons of fun getting creative and colourful with your look this spring:)
