How To Tame Your Texture 101

First thing’s first: 80% of people always want what they don’t/can’t have. Whether your hair is curly, wavy, kinky, frizzy or inconsistent, there comes a time where you have to stop fighting it for the sake of your hair’s health. Read below for some tips on how to work with your natural hair texture and for some healthy smoothing tips!

Embracing Your Natural Texture
One of the things about textured hair is that it is naturally drier than straight hair. This is because the coils of the curls make it harder for your natural oils to travel down the shaft of the hair. Now, who is the ugly stepsister of dry, curly hair? That’s right, frizz. Frizz is a common problem for many people and in this humidity, sometimes it feels almost impossible to control. Two of the most important things you should have in your curly hair arsenal is an amazing shampoo and conditioner. Everyone should avoid products containing sulfates, especially people with curly hair because it will dry your hair out further. My favourite shampoo and conditioner for curly hair is Eufora’s Curl’n Enhancing Shampoo and Enhancing Conditioner. They contain rice and keratin amino acids to help strengthen your hair and tomato fruit ferment extract to give the curl more bounce and curl retention. One other must have product for curls/ waves is a leave in curl enhancing product. My favourite product for fine, curly hair is Eufora’s Curl’n Defining Solution. It’s a lightweight enhancing foam that gives body and hold to your natural texture. For medium to thick hair, I prefer to use Curl’n Forming Cream which hydrates the curls more while giving shape to each curl. Both of these products can be put in wet and let dry naturally, or can be diffused in with a diffuser attachment on your blowdryer. A silk or satin pillowcase will also protect your curls from going frizzy overnight!

Smoothing Out Safely
The biggest mistake people with textured hair make while smoothing out their hair is not using products. Not using heat protection and a smoothing product can increase frizz and breakage due to over- manipulation of the hair. Curly/ wavy hair is very fragile when it’s wet, so it’s important to dry your hair 80% before smoothing out with a round brush. My secret weapon to a frizz- free blowout is Eufora’s Smooth’n Thermal Defense Prep which is heat protection and Smooth’n Straightening Balm which fights the frizz and moisturizes with long lasting staying power. These products contain a powerhouse of deeply nourishing oils and shea butter. While blowdrying frizzy hair, it is important to hold your dryer above your head in a downwards position. In doing so, the frizz will be blown down, taming your hair. Contrary to what many people think, it’s worse to set your flat iron to a lower temperature because it usually means you have to go over it a few times whereas, with a higher heat, you can do one pass with the flat iron and it’s straight!

Hopefully this helps you to keep your summer hair on point! Remember to take good care of your lovely manes. ♥
