My Secrets To Maintaining Vibrant Hair Colour!

Maintaining vivid and creative hair colours is all about creating a routine. These vibrant colours and pastels fade easily if they aren’t looked after properly! People always ask me how I maintain my bright red hair, so I decided I’d let you in on a few of my secrets 😉

Cold water. Trust me.. in the winter it’s painful. It’s hard to get used to at first but washing your hair in cold water will help delay the fading process. Hot water opens up the cuticle (outer layer of the hair strand) which lets all of your colour out. Cold water seals the hair cuticle which keeps your colour in! Think of it as keeping your door open in the winter when the heating is on! It is important to keep the colour locked inside your hair strand.

Professional products. It’s a sin to spend so much time and money on achieving a creative colour to use drugstore hair products that won’t help you maintain it. Investing in a good quality professional shampoo, conditioner and heat protecting product is a must. My absolute favourite products for vibrant colours are Eufora’s Bodifying Shampoo and Conditioner and the Smooth’n Thermal Defense Prep or Illuminate Shine Mist!

In-shower routine. This is one of those tricks that I’ve learned myself and it’s a life saver! This will only work if your hair is one solid, vibrant colour. Shampoo your hair and rinse like usual. Mix your usual semi- permanent hair colour with a moisturizing hair mask and apply it all over your hair to fully saturate your hair and comb it through. My favourite mask to use is the Eufora Moisture Masque along with my usual semi-permanent red. It’s great for locking in moisture and colour!

Regular trims & cut down on hot tools. Vibrant colours always hold better on healthy hair. Sometimes you may notice the hair towards your roots is more vibrant than the ends. This is because the ends become porous from lightening, heat damage, etc. Keeping up with regular trims at least every 3 months will help to keep your hair healthy! Unfortunately, hot tools and sun exposure accelerate the fading process. Try to keep the heat styling to a minimum and check online for some great heat-less hairstyles. If you do pick up the flat iron or curling iron, be sure to use a heat protectant beforehand to save your precious, mermaid locks!

Happy maintaining! I hope this helps you establish a hair care routine! 🙂
