Washing Your Hair, Easy Right?
We all wash our hair, but are you doing it right? One shampoo, maybe some conditioner, once a week, all the things I’ve heard when asking people how they are washing their hair at home. I’m here to help you make sure that your hair and scalp are being treated properly!
Before getting into a routine, picking the proper products for your hair and scalp are key. For anyone who uses a lot of products, has curly and/or thick hair, or goes longer than 3 days in between washing your hair, I always recommend starting with Eufora Urgent Repair shampoo. It is a very gentle clarifying shampoo to get out heavier build up while still being very gentle on the hair and scalp. I highly recommend this product for anyone who gets an itchy scalp or goes swimming often! After that you can break it down into hair types. Here are my recommendations with Eufora products for each hair type:
For fine hair I recommend the volume or bodifying lines. They are both lightweight so you will still be able to give your hair the volume you want! If you are concerned about thinning hair, then the thickening line is perfect for you!
For curly hair the perfect curl or smoothing lines are amazing! Perfect curl is amazing to enhance your natural curls and give them the hydration they need! The smoothing line is great for those with frizzier curls as it still hydrates your curls while working on combating the frizz at the same time! (a little secret… you could use a combination of both lines!)
For dry hair I would recommend either the moisture intense or hydrating lines. If you have thick dry hair, the moisture intense line is more suitable for you! For hair on the average/finer side the hydrating line would be amazing for your hair!
All the above are recommendations but everyone’s hair is different so I always say you can try any shampoo for your hair type and find what is best suited for your hair! Mixing and matching is always a good idea too if you have a combination of hair types! Now that we have the products down, let’s get into a step-by-step breakdown of a thorough wash day:
1. Brush your hair: Washing your hair starts outside of the shower. A lot of people don’t brush their hair until after their shower which can lead to more breakage. The hair is more fragile when it is wet and if the existing knots before shampooing are not combed out, they will get worse after shampooing and then harder to comb out which will cause damage to the elasticity of the hair.
2. Wetting the hair: The first wet down is crucial as to ensure you are really rinsing out any first layer of product and ensuring full saturation of all your hair to make sure each spot will get properly shampooed.
3. First shampoo: The first shampoo will get any product build up, oils, and any other pollutants out of your hair. This shampoo may not lather well yet, as it has so much to break through, especially if there is excessive oil or lots of products.
4. Rinsing: Ensure to thoroughly rinse the shampoo so no excess is left behind
5. Second shampoo: After the first shampoo, the buildup is out of your hair which means the second shampoo can get to work. You can use the same shampoo or a different shampoo for this step. Now the shampoo will be able to reach the scalp and properly cleanse the hair for optimal hair and scalp health. Whichever shampoo you choose to use, this is where the effects of it will really be able to penetrate the hair!
6. Rinsing again: Make sure there is no shampoo left in the hair
7. Conditioning: Not all people choose to condition their hair and that’s ok. If you have short hair or fine hair and choose not to, there is no problem with that. For those with thicker hair, curly hair, flyways, or dryness you will need a conditioner. You should apply your conditioner mostly from the mid shaft to the ends. I always take any excess on my hands and give myself a mini scalp massage as this allows some moisture for your scalp without making it greasy.
8. Rinsing AGAIN: The final rinse is most important as you want to ensure that all the products are not left in as that can cause more build up and can lead to an itchy scalp.
9. Post shower: I always recommend wrapping your hair in a microfiber towel as it is very gentle on the hair and prevents frizzing. When you start to brush your hair after the shower I would spray detangler or leave in conditioner to make any knots melt away! Start brushing your hair from the bottom up to prevent any pulling and breakage.
After your hair is properly detangled go in with any of your favorite Eufora products and style as you’d like! Whether its air dried or blow-dried, your hair and scalp are now properly cleansed!
